How To Get Married In Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

Getting married in Bannerlord is much more important than it may seem at first. A spouse can strengthen your clan by helping in battles, leading parties, governing settlements, and eventually giving you heirs to continue your dynasty if your main character dies.

Choosing the right partner can have a major impact on your long-term campaign.

How To Find A Spouse

There are two main ways to find a potential spouse in Bannerlord.

Method One: Visiting Towns And Castles

The traditional method is to travel between towns and castles and speak with nobles inside the keep.

If a character is available for marriage, you will usually see the dialogue option:

“I wish to profess myself your most ardent admirer.”

This generally means the character is unmarried and can potentially become your spouse.

Not every attempt will succeed, though. Some nobles may reject you depending on:

  • Your dialogue choices

  • Your character skills

  • Your traits

  • Random chance

This method feels more natural during gameplay, but it can take time to find suitable candidates.

Method Two: Using The Encyclopedia

The fastest and easiest method is using the in-game encyclopedia.

Press N to open it, then filter by:

  • Heroes

  • Alive

  • Lord or Lady

  • Not Married

This will show all unmarried nobles currently available in your campaign.

From there, you can check:

  • Age

  • Clan

  • Family members

  • Current location

  • Marital status

Once you find someone you want to marry, track their location and travel to them.

Additionally, a previously married character can sometimes become available later if their spouse dies.

How The Romance System Works

After finding the person you want to marry, speak with them and begin the romance dialogue.

Usually, the conversation starts with:

“There is something I’d like to discuss.”

Then choose:

“Perhaps you and I…”

After this, the persuasion mini-game begins.

You will receive several dialogue options with different success percentages. In most situations, choosing the option with the highest success chance is the safest approach.

These persuasion checks are influenced by skills and traits such as:

  • Charm

  • Leadership

  • Honor

  • Roguery

Sometimes you can pass every check easily, while other times a single failed response can completely ruin the attempt.

You Need To Wait A Few Days

Marriage usually does not happen after a single conversation.

After successfully completing the first persuasion attempt, you normally need to wait one or two in-game days before speaking with the character again.

If the second conversation also succeeds, the marriage can move forward.

If it fails badly, the character may lose interest entirely, forcing you to look for another potential spouse.

The Easier Marriage Method

If you do not want to rely on persuasion checks and romance dialogue, there is another option.

You can arrange the marriage directly through the clan leader.

To do this:

  1. Open the encyclopedia

  2. Check the character’s family

  3. Find the clan leader, usually their father or head of the family

  4. Speak to them and choose:

“I would like to propose an alliance between our families through marriage.”

Then select yourself as the marriage proposal.

From there, you will need to offer denars or valuable items until the deal is accepted.

In many cases:

  • Around 50,000 denars is enough

The exact amount depends on:

  • The clan

  • The character

  • Your wealth

  • Your clan status

Once accepted, the marriage happens immediately.

Why Choosing The Right Spouse Matters

A strong spouse can become one of the most valuable members of your clan.

Before marrying someone, it is worth checking their skills instead of choosing randomly.

A good spouse can help with:

  • Governing settlements

  • Leading armies and parties

  • Fighting in battles

  • Clan management

  • Producing heirs

Some noble characters already have excellent combat, steward, or leadership skills, making them extremely useful throughout the campaign.
